Overdone your acids? Say sorry to your skin with Ceramide Fix Serum 12%. Much like a comforting hug, this replenishing, gel-like serum works quickly to help repair the skin's natural lipid barrier, keeping it looking smooth, hydrated and healthy.
Description

Formulated with an advanced, active 12% ceramide complex, this serum is perfect if you’ve gone too hard with your acids and your skin is feeling effects such as dryness, redness, flakiness and soreness. It’s boosted with niacinamide and 2% azelaic acid, and works to rapidly rebalance and soften the skin while also refining the look of the complexion. Clinically proven to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) in 48 hours.*

Light, smooth, fast-absorbing texture, perfect for layering either in a morning or night routine. Great for younger skin types suffering from irritation or redness, or simply those who want to strengthen their barrier for overall skin health.

What's in the formula?

Our formula is unique because it contains pseudoceramides, which are synthetic ceramides that are more stable, planet-friendly and able to hydrate skin as well as able to better mimic the composition of natural lipids and the skin’s natural structure compared to plant-derived ceramides. The range also contains other skin-boosting, active-level ingredients like azelaic acid, which is a powerful antioxidant with a similar effect to a leave-on exfoliant and helps to refine skin texture. There’s also niacinamide, to help even skin tone, and glycerin, a humectant that helps skin retain moisture.

How it works

5% SK-Influx® V MB ceramide blend with AP, NP and EOP: Restores the protective barrier function of the skin and has been shown to significantly decrease TEWL, improving the stratum corneum (top layer of skin) barrier repair.

3% niacinamide: A form of vitamin B3 with humectant properties that helps protect the skin barrier by supporting the skin’s production of ceramides, as well as drawing in water and locking it in place.

2% azelaic acid: A naturally occurring acid with a similar effect to a mild, leave-on exfoliant, helping to unclog pores and refine the skin's surface. It is also a potent antioxidant and helps to diminish the appearance of blemishes and discolouration. ‘Tells’ cells at the skin’s surface how to behave and encouraging them to produce more collagen and elastin.

2% glycerin: A humectant that helps to retain moisture in the skin

1.5% biolin: A cosmetic prebiotic sugar that supports the microbial protective flora of the skin. With biolin, skin microbiota recovers faster and harmful organisms are reduced.

*Independent Clinical Trial Results tested on 33 subjects for 3 days

How to use
How
Step 2 of your routine – treat.

Massage into skin morning and evening after using Ceramide Fix Cleansing Balm and Hyaluronic Fix Extreme4 Concentrate 2%, and follow with Hyaluronic Fix Extreme4 Overnight Bounce Water Cream in the evenings.

Tips
Our Ceramide Fix range is ideal for pairing with our hydrating Hyaluronic Fix Extreme4 range. They both help skin to retain moisture – Ceramide Fix by repairing the skin barrier so that it’s able to retain moisture again, and Hyaluronic Fix Extreme4 to add moisture back into skin and to lock it in.

Ceramides also help to improve skin’s tolerance of active ingredients, such as glycolic and salicylic acids by protecting the skin barrier – use Ceramide Fix Serum 12% on evenings when you aren’t using acids to keep it soothed and protected.

The Science

Ceramides are lipids (oils) found naturally in the skin and are
essential in supporting its protective barrier and retaining moisture. They are the building blocks of skin, comprising over 50% of its composition and play an important role in protecting it against external aggressors like UVA rays and environmental damage, as well as keeping it youthful and supple.

When your ceramide levels are low, the skin barrier is weakened. This happens with age, but also happens if skin has been over-exfoliated or overexposed to sun, for example. Moisture starts to escape (known as transepidermal water loss, or TEWL), which leads to a damaged skin barrier, causing dry, flaky skin, redness, irritation and dehydration.

Why you need it

When your skin barrier is damaged, you need to replenish your ceramide levels to help repair your skin barrier. Applying ceramides directly to skin does exactly that, and they also help to improve skin’s tolerance of active ingredients, such as glycolic and salicylic acids, by protecting the skin barrier. You'll experience all these benefits:

  • Rebalance the skin's natural biome
  • Even out skin tone
  • Smooth fine lines & wrinkles
  • Reduce redness & irritation

Key ingredients

  • Ceramides

Lipids (oils) found naturally in the skin that are essential in supporting the skin’s protective barrier, helping it retain moisture and protecting it against environmental damage, as well as keeping it youthful and supple.

  • Azelaic acid

A naturally occurring acid that has similar effect to a mild, leave-on exfoliant. Helps to unclog pores and refine the skin's surface as well as encouraging younger cells to produce more collagen and elastin.

  • Niacinamide

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) has multiple benefits, but it's best known for its ability to condition the skin and even out skin tone for an overall brighter complexion.

How do I know if my barrier is damaged?

If your skin barrier is damaged, you’ll experience transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which means your barrier is unable to retain moisture. As a result, you’ll experience any or all of the following:

  • Redness
  • Itchiness
  • Dehydration or dullness
  • Hyperpigmentation (due to the skin being vulnerable to UV rays)
